Miyako House is a quaint little Sushi house in down town AVL. They’ve been there since 2020, which means they opened during d.ifficult times (to say the least) and survived! I’m not surprised; they have pleasant service and good selections that will likely bring you back for more.
The service I received was kind and personal; however, in full disclosure, I did visit during a very quiet lunch period. I really enjoyed their green tea – it’s quite robust, which I like – and the miso was very balanced. Their has a good vinegar flavor without being overbearing and a light touch of sweetness.
The nigiri was delicious, with a great consistency. I could taste all of the flavors of the rice combined with the fish. There were generous cuts of Sashimi – I felt like I definitely got my money’s worth – but during the time I visited, which, again, was early, the fish was still quite cold – the colder the fish is, the less it gives you that melt-in-your-mouth experience. However, I just took my time and let them get more towards my preferred temp. I did get one cut that was a little on the chewy side but I know that not Every cut is Always going to be perfect. Over-all, I really enjoyed my experience at Miyako House and look forward to returning.
We have enjoyed Miyako House for several years and frequent it regularly. It is consistently fresh and delicious. I enjoy the nice variety of vegan & vegetarian items as well as the varied amazing seafood offerings – the red snapper dishes are incredible. My partner, on the other hand, always orders sashimi. We have never been disappointed, which is especially important, and impressive, when comparing raw fish. We give it high marks for flavor, presentation, freshness, service, consistency, portion size, and price.
An unpretentious, yet wholly authentic, Japanese eatery, Miyako House is my downtown go-to. The establishment clearly prioritizes excellent food and service. So if you are seeking dim lights and private dining spaces, you may want choose another spot. But, if you’re after fantastically fresh and flavor-forward Asian dishes, Miyako House will not disappoint. Neither will presentation. Beautiful. Because it is always clean, friendly, fresh and palate-delighting – even when they are slammed, I highly recommend it.
